The name 'Somewhere North' comes from a moment a few years ago, brainstorming how I could leave my mundane job and somehow create a lifestyle where I could be my own boss and take back control of my lifestyle. I remember slugging out one of a 5-in-a-row 16 hour working day’s; tired and bored out of my brain, dreaming of being ‘Somewhere North’ in my fitted out 2006 SLWB Toyota Hiace.

 

Being from Newcastle and thriving off the chance to escape the city to find uncrowded waves and beaches led to the inevitability of heading north on my days off. There’s something about ‘heading north’ to us Australians. Maybe it’s the lure of the sun/heat but for me it’s always been the draw to family and destinations like Crescent Head, Noosa, and Byron Bay. The slow burning idea of quitting my job to build vans for others grew from this moment onwards, kickstarting the motions into what we’ve built up until today.

The past few years has seen an absolute BOOM in the van-life lifestyle. The movement of everyday humans coming around to the realisation that there’s a cheap and efficient way of travelling has been super enlightening to watch. Gone are the days of exploring our beautiful country being an expensive, time consuming and often inconvenient experience. Here are the days of van life and ultimate FREEDOM.

Working closely with each client to create the perfect, unique camper for their own needs and desires, the entire process from the planning phase to handing over of the keys is undertaken with a strong emphasis on communication and inclusivity. We don’t just see our job as completing a fitout, we see it as a way of working with likeminded individuals, helping them take the initial steps on their way to achieving their van life dreams.
